You know sometimes, we all get caught up in comparing ourselves to others. I admit that I've been guilty of that sometimes. We all end up thinking things like this:
Whoa, he sure is a really good singer. If only I could....... That video got 100,000 views in only 3 days? I'll never get there.....There's 4 year olds playing ARCT songs. What about me......How did she get the money to buy that car?
There's many things we want to reach, but we think that we can't get there. Sometimes, we really can't get there. Other times, it's because we are stopping ourselves. Still other times, it's because we can't do everything.
Think about it. Maybe it's not possible for you to save enough money for that car. Maybe it's not possible for you to become a popular expert quick.
And it's difficult to be the billionaire, the talented singer, the 4-year old playing an ARCT song, and the popular person with a big reputation at the same time. Maybe with that specific combination, it's possible, but many times, you can't do it all.
I've seen a couple videos answering people's questions about making a good YouTube channel, which often said things like, "True. The best time to start your channel was 14 years ago like you wanted to. The second best time is now." Or, "Don't expect to get thousands of views in a few months. That could take you three or four years." Or, "You've got to be consistent and have plans and goals." Most importantly, "Don't give up just because you don't have a million subscribers yet. Focus on quality content."
That's true for a lot of other things. There's no rewinding time - if you're 32, sure it might have been better to start playing piano when you were 4 - like I did - but why spend your whole life wishing it was earlier and never end up playing the piano? And I didn't start playing ARCT in a year. It's taken me time.
Also, there's the part about making plans and goals, which is part of my last reason why we don't get there: because we are stopping ourselves. If you set a goal to save, let's say, a tenth of the money that you make each month, but before the month is over you go and spend it all on new clothes, you're stopping yourself from being able to buy the car. And do you really need to have that car? You could invest that money in a piano so you can play your songs. Or get some vocal lessons and learn how to sing better. Or get a camera and start making videos about a topic you like. You'll never get there unless you start. And make sure you leave yourself enough time for these things. It wouldn't be a wise choice to start something new if you don't have time.
So, five things if you want to reach a destination:
1. Don't compare yourself to others.
2. Think about time. You can't go back, so it's better to start now than start later if you have the opportunity. And everything takes time, so you can't expect to get there right away.
3. Don't complain about things that aren't possible for you.
4. Don't try to do everything.
5. Make plans and goals, and take the opportunities you find.
And I'm going to add a 6th thing - which should help you get some inspiration: Listen to songs!
