Serenade

I'm just going to let you know something now: Now that I have 50 posts, I'm almost done sharing the songs I recorded a few years ago. I played this one for RCM level 10, which is a long time from the earlier songs that I learned in level 7.

There's a reason why I liked this song. It has a lot of smooth left-hand runs that make the song calm and peaceful. I suppose a serenade should be like that, though. I usually like songs like that more than those which have a lot of loud, banging chords. Of course other people will have their own opinions about what songs they like, so I'm not saying those songs are better, I'm saying that I like them more.

Of course every song needs to have some points where it is quiet and some points where it is louder and more tense. Otherwise, it doesn't tell a story - which is an important factor when creating songs and solos - and it gets boring. It's kind of like a book. If you read a book and nothing ever threatened the success of the characters, would you want to read it again? There's no action. No conflicts. No suspense. Overall, no interest.

Sometimes when I go to YouTube and look for a recording of a song, I end up seeing things on the side that have a whole bunch of bright colors: "20 Things You DIDN'T KNOW What to do With." I don't see how you'll get much value out of that. It might look interesting, and that's how videos get 1.2 million views - because people judge the book by its cover and click it. I'd much rather listen to the new song that my favorite singer released (by the way, if we fast forward a week I'm playing it), whether the picture is gray or not. Sounds much better to me.

The real reason why we're playing songs is for our enjoyment and that of our audiences, right? So I hope you'll like this song, too.
