I'm not saying nothing when I tell you that I've seen many different versions of this song recently. There's been a lot of "virtual choirs" singing it from their homes, something that wasn't nearly as popular before the pandemic. But why this song? There's a lot of other music you could sing with a virtual ensemble, isn't there? Couldn't you sing the latest released song from three days ago?
The lyrics aren't that complicated, either. In fact, they happen to be based on a biblical passage.
The Lord bless you and keep you,
Make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you.
The Lord turn his face towards you
And give you his peace.
And here's another part of the song.
In the morning and the evening,
In your coming and your going,
He is with you.
These are some simple lyrics and ones that might not seem to apply to a certain situation, but perhaps this is a message that's becoming important to people today. Or perhaps it's allowing them to connect even though they're at a distance. Maybe it inspires them even when they don't have any virtual ensembles to sing in.
When there's a global pandemic, you're going to want some reminder that the disaster will be replaced by peace. It might not happen in six weeks, but nothing lasts forever. If you're feeling alone, you might want someone to give you their blessing.
A song often becomes popular because it resonates with people in some way. For example, there's a song by Lauren Daigle called You Say that I previously made a cover of. It's now one of her most popular songs. This one is talking about how she has been feeling like she isn't enough because of her failures. That is probably a feeling that a lot of people experience.
However, an idea could still be important, but not be mentioned very much because it isn't something that you want to hear. You don't want to be told that you are desperately failing, but if you don't realize that, you'll never find a way to turn the situation around.
You don't want to be told that you've done something wrong to someone else, but if you don't realize that, you'll never be able to receive forgiveness.
So you can tell that not all things that are important actually become popular. But, for a song like this one, I think it has received a lot of renditions for good reason. This might be a song that you need to hear - or that someone else needs to hear at a different time. But that's why I have this piano cover on Tea with Liya, right?
I put it here so that you could listen to this song, and remember that you are not alone. I put it here so you could...
keep filling your teacup with music!

Dear Liya, that was absolutely beautiful - both the music and your words. I have never actually heard this song before so your rendition is all I know and I loved it. Your post brings words of encouragement as well as words of wisdom. I had tears in my eyes as I listened and read, it was the perfect way to start my day. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you liked it! Maybe you should find another version to listen to. It'll fill up your teacup some more!
