Maybe today, you were thinking about having a little more freedom.
There's that thing you just didn't want to do. You were hoping to forget about it for a few days, but now it's finally here.
We all have those times when we want to say, "How come you're making me do that? What reason do you have? I should be free to do whatever I want."
Actually, you are. Why?
Oscar Peterson probably wasn't talking about the same kind of "freedom" when he wrote this song. (If you haven't heard of him, he was a famous Canadian jazz pianist whom I like listening to.) He was probably talking about more important kinds of freedom - like being able to say whatever you want, choose where to work, and apply for the same opportunities that others have. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen at all times and places yet, but hopefully it is for you!
With this real freedom in our hands, we don't have much to complain about when we have to do something we don't like!
But it's still easy for that to happen! So when you can't convince yourself that it isn't that bad, and you can't think about something else, what do you do?
I have said this many times, and it might not be helping you, but if it isn't, you wouldn't still be here. So I'm going to say it again: turn on your favorite song and just get it done.
Here's some great news: You're free not to do it, but you are also free to do it now. In fact, you might want to know that I'm learning two songs called "Gettin' to it" and "Why Don't I?" Look at that. Two more reasons to do it now.
If you don't like me saying "listen to songs! Listen listen listen!" all the time, you might want to read this: Music can make your life better
That's why I wrote this post, you know. So that music can make your life a little bit better, and you might think a bit differently about freedom. That's what the song's about, after all!
Freedom!!!
