.....for what? Depending on where you live, the past few days might have been some of celebration for you. So you could say that now's the time to celebrate, if you wanted to. If there's flags to be waved, fireworks to explode, and money to be made by the city hosting the party, then why wouldn't now be the time?
Speaking of money, Americans who lived in Charlie Parker's time would have paid quite a bit to see his performances of this song, which he wrote himself. Hopefully the ticket sellers weren't overwhelmed by the number of customers and forced to rush through each transaction at the speed of lightning. Charlie Parker wasn't exactly the least known and preferred musician on the continent, you know. (huge understatement)
As SOON as you know that Charlie Parker wrote a song, be prepared for some high speed music. Most of his songs have a fast tempo, which is why I have to slow some of them down to play them on the piano. Maybe it's easier to play fast lines on a saxophone, but then again, I can't really compare myself to a famous and professional musician.
You might want to know why this song is called Now's the Time, and my answer will be, "Charlie Parker knew that you would ask that question, and the only way to find out the answer would be to travel back in time and ask him. So, he said after writing the song that 'now's the time' to find out the reason." You might not consider that a very good answer, but my only other one is, "I don't know." Would you prefer that?
Additionally, you might be wondering why this song was posted at 6:39 AM, and saying, 'Does this Liya get up at the crack of dawn every day?' (There's another thing that has to do with time.) Actually, I don't. What I do is write the post a few days before it will get published, set the publishing date to the day I've written down in my calendar, and then change the time to morning instead of whatever time I'm writing it at. For example, if I'm writing a post at 6:39 PM on Monday, I will simply change the date to Wednesday and the PM to AM. If I'm writing at 1:00, I'll change it to 7 or 8:00 AM. Then I can make it look like I get up really early, when actually I don't.
I've been talking for a long time. I should probably just put the song here and let you listen to it.
Tea in hand - enjoying reading your blog and listening to the music! :)
ReplyDeleteDo you actually listen to these songs with a cup of tea? If you did, then now I have a reason to call this blog Tea with Liya. But even if you don't, it's a good thing that you're liking my songs, because I'm about to give you more!
