This.
This is the moment you've all been waiting for. (drags out the "all" like one of those announcers on TV)
Especially since - oops - I missed last week's post.
You've been waiting for this since Somebody Loves Me.
Now I'm going to give you the really big cliff-hanger (especially if you're reading this on my website, because you'll have to click the keep-reading button). You've been waiting for one of the greatest composers in history (at least that's my opinion, but others will disagree).
You've been waiting for.....
Summer?
Well, there is a solstice coming up, but summer isn't a composer of anything except heat. It felt like 41 on Sunday (yeah, I am supposed to be talking about music, but it's a pretty big change from two months ago).
The 40th post?
Well, it's not really the 40th post because 6 of them were Heads Up posts (they don't have any songs with them). You'll have to wait 6 weeks before I reach the 40th song.
What you've really been waiting for is George Gershwin.
Yeah. Him again. I haven't posted one of his songs since February, so I decided that now's the time. You might notice that I often put some spin on George Gershwin's songs to spice them up a bit. Not that the originals didn't sound good, but I try to put something unique in the songs I play. Even though I wasn't around in the 1920s and '30s, you'll often find me talking about G.G.. That is, if you're listening to everything I ever say, which you're probably not.
So what did I do to change up this song? Well, it has to do with time. I ended up learning the song in 3/4 instead of 4/4 (I don't remember why because it was last summer and I don't remember what the original recording sounded like). If any of you recognize this song from the original time signature, you'll probably think it sounds different. I'd have to listen to the recordings to find out what the 4/4 version sounds like.
I also tried playing it in 5/4 once, but I didn't ever record it, so you can't hear that one yet.
Maybe I should sort my songs by composer instead of by genre. Then I could have a section of Tea with Liya entirely devoted to George Gershwin, for example. The only problem with that is that people that don't know the major composers for each genre won't know which group to go to. And for composers like G.G. that wrote both classical and jazz songs, you wouldn't know which ones were classical and which were jazz until you listened to them. And, some composers would only have one song in their section. You know what? This would be a good time for me to ask you what you think. There's a comment box for a reason, you know.
I'm sure you're tired of reading by now. I'm not one of them, but there must be some people that don't like reading for long periods of time and just scroll to the bottom where the content they're looking for is. I try to avoid making my posts really long and loading them with pictures (I usually try to communicate with you using music instead), so that I don't make you uninterested in the post.
Anyways, you're probably looking for the music. Where is it? Right here.
