Tis Autumn

Welcome back to Tea with Liya! Today, I'm playing a jazz ballad called "'Tis Autumn." Composed by Henry Nemo, it reminded me of the leaves that fall on top of anything you find outside. When winter and then spring come, they're all gone. Could you find something underneath a pile of autumn leaves? I hope you like listening to this one!

Some things seem to disappear if you leave them alone for long enough. The shine on your freshly cleaned floor, for example, could disappear in seconds. You might have stared into a fridge wondering where the 5 pineapples you just chopped up went. (Those are things we won't see anymore, now that it's autumn.)

Other things, however, don't seem to disappear. If you have to get something done, then you have to get it done - it's not disappearing. "But -- I'm in the middle of reading this. You're not saying that I have to go and practice the song I need to have ready for Saturday, right?"

If you do need to have a song ready for Saturday, there's only a few days left. Maybe you should consider that. However, maybe you could just throw some autumn leaves on top of your piano and forget about it.

But what's going to happen if you do that?

If you're looking at all these notes, you're probably asking yourself why you need to play all of them. Why don't you cover the page with some leaves?

You could simply forget about the song until Friday, but if you do that, you'll suddenly remember that you need to play the song the next day. You'd start trying to make sure you had it ready but you'd inevitably not be able to play it properly on Saturday.

You regretfully look at your pile of leaves the next day and realize that it did absolutely nothing to help you. "Other things, however, don't seem to disappear..."

But what if the real way to free yourself from the task is to get it done? If you don't get it done, you'll just leave yourself thinking about it until you eventually decide to do it.

But if you do start clearing off those leaves... if you do notice that some things don't always disappear... then you'll be able to have your song ready by Saturday. You won't have to think later about how you failed. Then, you'll have more time to...

...keep filling your teacup with music!
