Happy Rag

This post was literally a last-minute one. See? It came out a minute before it would be emailed to my subscribers. Now I just have to hope there weren't any time inconsistencies, because if there were, those of you subscribed to my email list would have to wait till tomorrow to receive my post.

Speaking of timing, that is extremely important when playing a song like this one where you have to coordinate the two hands, which are playing completely different things. While the right hand tackles the melody, the left hand is playing notes that align with the main beat of the song (and jumping across the piano while doing it), giving the song its bouncy feeling.

Today, I'm going to ask you to listen to this song in a certain way. No, you don't have to blast it out your radio, you don't have to walk around getting people to come and listen, and you don't have to stand upside down. It's very simple:

DO NOT sit in a chair while listening to this song.

Just don't!!!

Now that you've read that, you get to stand up, then click the play button while I explain why.

We all know that sitting for too long is a significant health drawback. When we don't move very much, we can cause a whole host of problems with circulation, bone strength, energy, brain power, and even our life expectancy. Our bodies are made to move, and modern technology hasn't really helped with that. But despite all these undesirable symptoms, a survey conducted by Ergotron proved that 86% of American workers sit for most of the time they spend at work.

Factoring in 8 hours of sleep, all the screen time we have at home, and other things such as meals, commuting, and reading, this means that most Americans spend only 3 hours per day actually standing up for periods of more than a few seconds. However, 67% disliked sitting all day, 74% thought sitting too much could lead to an early death, and 96% of them are willing to stand more to improve their health.

Are you part of that 96%? Taking more time to stand up can actually make you live longer. So why not?

Keep moving, and filling your teacup with music!
