Take Five

Some of you might think that today is a special day if you do one of these 2 things: watch Star Wars, or play jazz. Instead of saying "may the force be with you," you say "May the fourth be with you." That applies to the first thing, which I've never done, but you know that I do the second thing.

So you probably want to know what May 4th has to do with this song in particular. Take Five is written in a 5/4 time signature, which isn't very common, but this song would be quite different without it. To make a short explanation of that, the rhythm of the song has repeating "units" of 5 beats, rather than the usual 3 or 4.

Or maybe you don't want the explanation. You just want to listen to the music.

If you write May 4th as 4/5, you should probably celebrate Dave Brubeck Day (he was the composer of this song) on April 5th.

I saw the Brubeck album that contained this song on a poster that said, "The Greatest Jazz Albums of All Time." It was on there beside Miles Davis' album "Kind of Blue." So What comes from that album.

Anyway, I like this song, and I think it's a good one. So I hope you're ready to take five - and a listen. I'll find out once you click the button....
