Why am I always hearing.....

If you've seen my I've Got Rhythm post, you might want to know that, in jazz, there's no way of leaving behind the two G's. I think you could probably say about at least 50 songs, "A standard by George Gershwin." Of course, we usually just say, "It's a Gershwin," even though that doesn't make grammatical sense.

Truth is, many of these names that were around in the 1900s (for some classical composers, even the 1600s!), stick around till the present day. And that's because they did something important that we still know about now - and usually want to find out more about.

And - you knew I was going to say this, right? - we can do the same thing with songs. Because people hundreds of years ago passed down their songs, we can still hear them today. And we can find out more about them by - there's no surprise that I'm going to say this one! - LISTENING!

So why don't you go right now, look up a song, and listen to it?

....You're still here? I said RIGHT NOW!

This page won't close until I hear the music playing!

Actually, it will. I could try and program the page to not move to another one unless there's information being sent to the speakers, but I didn't really take the time to do that. I don't know if it's even possible.

But I still want you to listen.....? Just play the song!!

Update: You might see some more G.G. songs coming in. I'm working on two right now, and I'm planning on starting a third one some time soon. So be on your guard - there's almost an unlimited number of Gershwin songs to learn(and listen to)..........

  1. Yeah that's right...I spent a whole post talking about George Gershwin. But really. He was a better musician than you might think. Actually, what do you think?
