10,000 Reasons

Welcome back to Tea with Liya! Today, I'm playing a song called "10,000 Reasons." You may not have 10,000 reasons to listen to this song, but you probably have 10,000 things to be thankful for, or 10,000 ways that you can stay positive even when bad things are happening. I hope you like listening to it!

Listen to the song here

10,000 is a big number, isn't it? You probably couldn't say that you have 10,000 of anything, until you start counting atoms or drops of water. In fact, you could also use dollars or hairs on your head. Maybe that wasn't a very good example to demonstrate the size of the number.

There was a point when 10,000 would have been the biggest number you could use as a unit. Who needed things like a million when you didn't know about the existence of molecules and atoms, and you didn't know how many stars there were in the sky, and you didn't have stock markets that were worth millions of dollars? If you were trying to describe a massive quantity, you'd do it by putting together 10,000s, for example, "10,000 times 10,000."

You might be thinking about 10,000 in the context of smaller numbers, though - for example, running around a track that's a few hundred meters away from you. It's hard to keep up your endurance, isn't it? It would be better if you never even had to run around that track. You'd be able to make more excuses if it wasn't there.

But what if you think about the fact that moving is beneficial for your health? You're also soaking up some vitamin D from the sun, and drinking some water while you're there. If that track hadn't been there, you never would have gotten all of those benefits.

Or what if you were so busy that you didn't have time to go to that track? Have you considered the probability that it gets built a few hundred meters away from you? What if you lived somewhere completely different? You could have been so close to the North Pole that temperatures never get above zero. How would you run around a track then?

What if you didn't have water to bring with you, or for some reason, your legs weren't capable of moving you at all? Do you think I'm going to have 10,000 questions to ask you eventually?

Now perhaps you're starting to appreciate running around a track, huh? There's a lot of things that could have prevented you from having that opportunity.

Now, instead of complaining, you have 10,000 reasons to be thankful. I'm sure you could think of many more things that have been special opportunities for you. Perhaps you can think of, as the song itself says, "10,000 reasons and forevermore." Your list could go on forever!

So, even if there's a pandemic in the world, or there's something that you don't exactly appreciate, it's time to "sing like never before!"

Keep filling your teacup with music!
