As I stated in the introduction, I heard this song at my church recently -- that is, watching a video of the service recently. (Everyone has to work around COVID, you know.) You might be surprised to know that the current theme is "apocalypse."
Now, I know what you're going to say. "What kind of church would go around forecasting the end of the world? COVID isn't that bad, is it?" That's why I'll ask you to go and look up the definition of "apocalypse." You'll notice that the results revolve less around world-changing events and more around... revelations?
Yes, that's the literal meaning of the word. An apocalypse is a revelation. Like a disastrous event, it's definitely something that is unexpected. It's often unexplainable, as well. It could leave you with a lot of questions, but by nature of being a revelation, it reveals something, too.
So, does that have anything to do with the pandemic? I think it does. Our experiences today could allow us to discover something we didn't know before. Maybe we should take COVID as a warning to be more prepared for health emergencies.
Do you see another definition of apocalypse? How about this one? "A revelation concerning the triumph of good over evil." Now, I'm starting to think back on our lockdown celebrations back in April. Do you remember seeing this?
Now how's that for an unexpected revelation? I think I might be able to count the resurrection as an apocalypse!
I think this song fits well into the theme of victory over evil... whether there's a Covid pandemic or not. And plus, you have an unexpected, unexplainable truth whether there's a Covid pandemic or not. He is risen indeed!
Keep filling your teacup with music!
