Today on Tea with Liya, I'm playing a jazz standard called "Don't Get Around Much Anymore." Believe it or not, I wasn't thinking about coronavirus lockdowns when I picked this song - I didn't consider that until later. If you're stuck inside looking for something to do, I'm glad you took the time to listen to this song. Keep filling your teacup with music!

Although the writer of this song's lyrics was thinking about breaking up with his girlfriend and feeling lonely without her, you might have other reasons why you're not getting around much anymore. Looks like the Coronavirus decided to stop you when it came to that.
With lockdowns spreading around the world, hoping to stop Covid before it gets in, seeing people that you normally spend time with is not an option. You might even feel nervous about going to the store - all this social distancing is going to become hard.
Believe it or not, it's actually a lot easier to get through a lockdown with the technology we have now. For example, even if you can't hear your favorite musicians perform, you can still play their CDs or listen to their music online. If you can't talk to your friends in person, you have phone calls, emails, and video calls. Refrigerators and freezers let you store food for longer so that you don't have to keep going to the store.
Even access to soap and water is something we shouldn't take for granted. Look at it this way - if suddenly you couldn't wash your hands for the next month, how would you protect yourself from the virus? What if your home disappeared, or you didn't have enough money to get food? Those of us who do have all those things should definitely be thankful for them.
"But," you'll say, "I've still got to stay inside for another month! I'm not exactly jumping out of my chair for that." Here's something else to consider - with extra time inside, you have a chance to sit down and think about events in your life. Is there anything you need to change? Maybe your current experiences inspired you to do something in the future.
If there's anything you've lost during this coronavirus lockdown, it's the opportunity to procrastinate, because you can't say you're "too busy" or "don't have enough time," while complaining about how bored you are with all the time.
If you take advantage of the opportunities you have, you might actually find that you're fine with not getting around much anymore.
P.S. I keep thinking about what Internet users in 2047 will say when they find all the posts from 2020 talking about "this coronavirus." "What was happening in 2020? Whatever a coronavirus is, everyone's talking about it."
Keep filling your teacup with music!
~Liya
