Etude in Ab Major

One of the most important things about compositions is putting some element in them that makes people like listening to it. When Giuseppe Concone wrote this song, he might have been thinking about dancing - that's what it sounds like when I listen to it.

Looking back at this piece in 2024, I realize it resembles Frederic Chopin's style a lot.

I learned this song as part of a level with the RCM music curriculum. To pass the grade and earn your certificate, you have to learn 1 song from each list, learn 2 studies (aka etudes), learn Technical Requirements such as scales and chords, play those things at the practical exam, and complete the required theory exams. It sounds easy, but:

1.  Some grades have 2 or 3 theory exams.
2. When you complete a practical exam, you have to finish the theory exams within 5 years to earn your certificate.
3. You have to pay for each exam, and the cost increases as you move to more advanced levels.
4. As the grades get higher, you can have up to 7 songs which can be up to 7 pages long.

As you can see, higher grade level means more exams, longer songs and certainly quite a bit of work for the student.  Reminds me of the education system!!

Wait a minute. Now I've spent more time talking about the negative points of RCM curriculum than I've spent talking about the song. So now it's time that I just let you listen to it.

I think you'll like it.
