Afternoon in Paris

Welcome back to Tea with Liya! Today, I'm playing a jazz standard by John Lewis called "Afternoon in Paris." He actually recorded the album this song was on in Paris, so connecting the song to the city really was important to him. Although it was written in the 1950s, this song is still considered valuable to jazz musicians' repertoire today. I hope you like listening to it!

Tis Autumn

Welcome back to Tea with Liya! Today, I'm playing a jazz ballad called "'Tis Autumn." Composed by Henry Nemo, it reminded me of the leaves that fall on top of anything you find outside. When winter and then spring come, they're all gone. Could you find something underneath a pile of autumn leaves? I hope you like listening to this one!

A Pittance of Time

Welcome back to Tea with Liya! Today, I'm playing a song called "A Pittance of Time," which was composed by Terry Kelly. He was in a store on November 11th when he noticed a man who refused to observe the 2 minutes of silence to respect war veterans. He managed to hold back his anger that day and direct it into a song instead. It reminds us that 2 minutes is just a "pittance of time" - a small sacrifice to honor those who sacrificed their lives. I hope you like listening to it!

Waltz in Gb

Welcome back to Tea with Liya! Today, I'm playing another song by Frederic Chopin - this one is a Waltz in Gb major. It turns out that if the instructions in Chopin's will had been followed, this song would never have existed today. Maybe there could be a good reason to not follow someone's instructions ... or is there? I hope you like listening to it!

Desafinado

Welcome back to Tea with Liya! Today, I'm playing a jazz song by Antonio Carlos Jobim called "Desafinado." (It might be better classified as a bossa nova, but since it is often played in an ensemble with improvisation, it could still be considered a jazz song.) According to the title of this song, it's actually meant to be played improperly. Does that mean I'm playing it incorrectly by playing it correctly? I'm not sure how to answer that one, but I hope you like listening to it!

Etude in Eb Major

Welcome back to Tea with Liya! Today, I'm playing a classical song composed by Frederic Chopin called "Etude #11." Chopin was one of the three well-known composers of the time period in which this song was written. These three piano players also happened to have bigger hands than mine, which makes it harder for me to play songs like this one. But why shouldn't you push yourself to the edge of whatever limits you have? I hope you like listening to this song!

Here I Am

Welcome back to Tea with Liya! Today, I'm playing a hymn called "Here I Am to Worship." This is one of the earliest songs I remember listening to. Don't forget that you're part of the reason why I'm posting songs here. I've been putting these on Tea with Liya so that someone like you could find it - and keep filling your teacup! I hope you like listening to it!
